How to create a subaccount
Subaccounts can be created one-by-one or in bulk. If you would like to create subaccounts in bulk, please refer to the instructions found in this article. To create a single subaccount, follow these steps:
- If you are in the parent account, click on the Subaccounts section at the top of the page. If you are currently in a subaccount, click on the house icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select Subaccounts from the dropdown menu.
- Click on the Create a new subaccount button on the right.
- In the pop-up window that appears, give your subaccount a name and select whether it should an Active or Trial account.
- Click on Account features and check the box next to each option you’d like that subaccount to be able to use.
- Click on the Save button.
By default, only the account Parent has the ability to create and edit subaccounts. However, the account Parent of an HQ, Teams, or Corporate account can grant this ability to certain Managers through custom permissions.
How to edit subaccount defaults
By default, when you create a subaccount, it will be automatically placed in the Trial status. However, you can change the default settings for subaccount creation so that new subaccounts are automatically placed in the Active status. You can also toggle on or off certain features.
- If you are in the parent account, click on the Subaccounts section at the top of the page. If you are currently in a subaccount, click on the house icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select Subaccounts from the dropdown menu.
- Click on the Subaccount defaults tab.
- Select Trial or Active, as desired.
- Click on Account features to view more default options.
- Once you’ve made your selections, click on the Save button.
Subaccount settings
Once you’ve created a subaccount, you can update or review its settings at any time. There are two different ways to accomplish this:
Method 1
- Navigate to the parent account’s Dashboard.
- Click on your account name and choose the desired subaccount from the dropdown list.
- Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen and scroll down to Subaccount settings.
- Choose Account from the dropdown menu.
Method 2
- Navigate to the parent account’s Subaccounts section.
- Scroll or use the search bar to locate the desired subaccount in the list.
- Click on the dropdown arrow that corresponds to the subaccount in question.
- Select the desired option from the list.
- View subaccount will bring you to that subaccount’s Home tab.
- Edit subaccount will bring you to that subaccount’s Account settings tab.
How to edit subaccount settings
Regardless of which method you use to get there, once you’ve navigated to the subaccount’s settings, you’ll see several tabs of settings that you can control.
- Basics: Manage the subaccount name, email address, and time zone. You can also view the subaccount ID. The information in this tab is required.
- Additional info: Manage extra information about the subaccount including name, business name, and address.
- Sender info: Manage the subaccount’s default sender name, email, and address. The information in this tab is required.
- Features: Enable or disable certain features for this subaccount.
- Notifications: Enable or disable 24-hour response summary emails and assign email addresses to receive them.
- Custom URLs: Assign a custom domain for landing pages.
- Deliverability: Set up DKIM for this subaccount and check for DMARC and SPF authentication.
How to activate a trial subaccount
To activate a subaccount that’s currently in the Trial status, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the parent account’s Subaccounts section.
- Scroll or use the search bar to locate the desired subaccount in the list.
- Click on the dropdown arrow that corresponds to the subaccount in question.
- Select Activate subaccount from the list.
How to retire a subaccount
When retiring a subaccount, it’s important to consider other elements that may be tied to it, such as signup forms or workflows. For this reason, we’ve recommend that you check for these elements before retiring the account.
- Navigate to the subaccount that you plan to retire.
- Click on the Audience tab.
- Click on the Forms section in the panel on the left.
- Click on the dropdown arrow for each form and select Archive from the menu.
- Repeat for all forms, including lightbox forms.
- Click on the Automation tab.
- Deactivate all automated workflows.
- Click on the Campaigns tab.
- Click on the Scheduled section towards the top.
- Cancel all scheduled mailings.
- Click on the house icon in the upper right corner of the screen and select Subaccounts from the dropdown menu.
- Scroll or use the search bar to locate the desired subaccount in the list.
- Click on the dropdown arrow that corresponds to the subaccount in question.
- Select Retire subaccount from the dropdown menu.
- In the pop-up window that appears, follow the prompts to confirm that you want to retire this subaccount.
Once a subaccount has been retired, it cannot be reactivated through the user interface. If you retired a subaccount by mistake, reach out to your primary email marketing point of contact. If the subaccount has been retired for 30 days or more, its data has been purged from our system and cannot be recovered.
