When using our automation tool, there are multiple trigger types to choose from: email signup, date-based, contact import, field change, and link clicks. There are two types of link click triggers: a link click on a specific mailing and a link click on any mailing.
Link click on a specific mailing
The link click on a specific mailing trigger fires a workflow when a contact clicks on a link in a specific mailing that you have scheduled or has completed sending. To select this trigger, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to your Automation tab.
- Click on the Create new workflow button.
- Click on Choose your trigger event.
- In the panel on the right, select Link click on a specific mailing.
- Click on the Next button.
- Select a mailing that has scheduled or completed sending.
- The menu will display scheduled mailings and mailings that have been sent in the last 30 days.
- We’ve found that almost all email opens and clicks occur in the first 48 hours after an email’s send, so it’s unlikely that an email will generate any additional opens or clicks after 30 days.
- It can take up to 30 hours for a campaign to complete sending, so when using the link click triggers, we recommend scheduling the mailing before you create the workflow. Scheduled mailings appear in the workflow UI right away, so going that route allows you to proceed with creating and activating your workflow without delays.
- Click on the Next button.
- Select each link that you’d like to be eligible to trigger the workflow.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Confirm button.
Link click on any mailing
The link click on any mailing trigger fires a workflow when a contact clicks on a specific link in any mailing that you have scheduled or has completed sending. To select this trigger, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to your Automation tab.
- Click on the Create new workflow button.
- Click on Choose your trigger event.
- In the panel on the right, select Link click on any mailing.
- Click on the Next button.
- Enter the URL that you’d like to trigger the workflow. To use more than one URL, click on Add a link.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Confirm button.
The link that you enter needs to be exact, as our system will look for a one-to-one match between the link clicked and the workflow specified.
Important link click notes
- The Link click on a specific mailing trigger is only available for mailings that have been scheduled or completed sending. Sent mailings must be completed because mailings that are in progress are not eligible for selection.
- Link click triggers are not available for split test mailings.
- Link click triggers do not work with mailings that have Google Analytics applied.
- Link click triggers only work for mailings that are sent to two or more recipients.
- Link click triggers operate on unique clicks. Clicking a link multiple times will not trigger the automated workflow repeatedly.
- Link click triggers will not work for test mailings.
- Links to signup forms are not eligible for link click triggers.
