About the Template Builder
Whether you choose to start with an existing template or start from scratch, the drag and drop editor offers plenty of ways to customize your campaigns. To simplify things, we designed the Template Builder in tiered accounts with all of the same tools that are available in the drag and drop editor, plus a few extras that we will go over below. For more information about Template Builder basics, please refer to this article.
Locking templates and campaigns
In the Brand Manager, you can choose to lock some or all of the elements in your template or campaign. Locking specific rows or content blocks is a great way to provide your subaccounts with a template that has some pre-loaded content to use as a starting point while allowing them to further customize the campaign to fit their needs. Here are a few different ways that you can lock templates and campaigns for your team.
Any edits that are made to a template or campaign in the Brand Manager will not affect existing campaign drafts that were created in a subaccount. This means that if you unlock a row, add a new block, update your font, or make any other changes to a template / campaign, existing drafts will not automatically update. Instead, subaccount users will need to create a new campaign from the updated version.
Lock the entire template / campaign
Click on the Lock toggle in the upper right corner of the editor. This will lock all rows in the campaign or template and subaccount users will not be able to edit any of it.
Lock a single row
- Click inside of the desired row to open the Row properties panel on the right.
- Click on the Lock toggle in the upper right corner of the panel.
This will lock all blocks in that row and subaccount users will not be able to edit or add anything to it. Subaccount users will still be able to edit any unlocked rows in the template / campaign.
Lock a single block
- Click inside of the desired block to open the Content properties panel on the right.
- Click on the Lock toggle in the upper right corner of the panel.
This will lock that block and subaccount users will not be able to edit it. Subaccount users will still be able to edit other unlocked blocks in that row and other unlocked areas of the template / campaign.
Footer editing
The Brand Manager has another special feature that is not available in the regular drag and drop editor: footer editing. Typically, the footer of each campaign is locked, but in the Brand Manager, you can update the language, style, and location of your footer elements.
The footer links are created using several different personalization tags:
[% manage %]
[% optout %]
[% signup %]
[% webview_private_url %]
[% account_rsvp_full_address %]
[% member:email %]
To move footer links elsewhere in your template you’ll just need to add them as a link behind some text or a button. For example, if you’d like to place the webview link to be at the top of your mailing, follow these steps:
- Drag in a new paragraph block.
- Type some copy in the block.
- Highlight the word(s) that you want to link, then click the chain icon in the text editor bar.
- In the pop-up window that opens, type the
[% webview %]
tag in the URL field. - Click on the OK button to save.
Footer requirements
While you can edit the styling for any of these tags, you are still legally required to adhere to the CAN-SPAM Act regarding email marketing, in addition to our Permission & Privacy Policy. Specifically, there are two items that we require in your campaign in order for you to send:
- A physical postal address
- A clear opt-out link (which we provide through the [% unsubscribe %] tag and the TrueRemove® service)
These items must be clearly visible and cannot be obscured using styling, i.e. white text on a white background. For more information about CAN-SPAM compliance, please refer to this guide from the FTC.
Locking subject lines and preheader text
When sharing a campaign from the parent account, you can check the Disable changes to boxes to prevent subaccounts from modifying the subject line or preheader text on the campaign. When the subject line is locked, subaccount users will not be able to do a subject line split test, since it is predefined and locked.
While you cannot lock a blank subject line, you can lock a blank preheader text field. When this occurs, subaccount users will be unable to enter any value into the preheader text field.
