Our drag and drop* editor is governed by the three main functions found under the tabs for Content, Rows, and Settings. While working on a campaign draft, the editor tools are located in the panel on the right. When you click on the Settings tab, you’ll find the general options that apply to the entire campaign.
Settings overview
The options that you select in the Settings tab are applied to all content blocks in a campaign by default. As a result, we recommend visiting the Settings tab first when you create a new campaign. You can override the options chosen in the Settings tab by adjusting an individual block’s settings.
Content area width
This option sets the width for the content area of your campaign. You can also think of it as the maximum width for your campaign because it will only come into play when the opener uses a device that has a screen larger than that width. This means that on small devices, it will be irrelevant.
Content area alignment
This option controls the alignment for the whole body of the campaign, you can choose between left or centered. The standard alignment is centered for newsletters and left for personal emails.
Background color
Here, you can set the default background color for the campaign. The background color is visible when the campaign is opened on a device that exceeds the content area width. However, you will be able to overwrite this option at the row and column levels when setting the properties for those elements.
Click on the color swatch to bring up the controls. You’ll see the theme colors as swatch options that you can select. Or, if you’d like to choose a color, use the slider to select a color to start from. You can also place your cursor inside the color block and click accordingly to select a color. Finally, if desired, you can place your cursor in the field with the hex code and type your own hex code in manually.
Content area background color
Building on the content area width you set above, this option sets the default background color for that area.
Default font
This option sets the default font family that all content elements in the campaign will inherit. However, you can overwrite this selection at the content block level.
Special note about fonts: A font’s ability to render correctly in the inbox is dependent on the device to which it’s sent. If a device that the email is opened on does not have the specified font installed, it will default to a different font that it can render when displaying the email. We always encourage you to test your campaigns before sending them, especially if you decide to alter the default fonts. And when in doubt, choose email-safe fonts such as Andale Mono, Arial, Arial Black, Arial Narrow, Book Antiqua, Century Gothic, Comic Sans MS, Courier New, Georgia, Helvetica, Impact, Palatino, Tahoma, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS, and Verdana.
Link color
This option sets the default link color that all content elements in the campaign will inherit. However, you can overwrite this selection in the individual content blocks.
* In April 2022, our legacy editor was replaced with a new drag and drop editor. Accounts that existed prior to this change still have access to the legacy editor through their previously saved templates and campaigns, however new, from-scratch campaigns can only be created in the new drag and drop editor. Accounts that were created after this change only have access to the new drag and drop editor. Please refer to our new editor FAQ article for more information.
